Exact Ventures recently reported that in 4Q21, the Enterprise Session Border Controller Market (E-SBC) grew 9% both sequentially and year-over-year to reach $111 million. This marks the first quarter of growth for the E-SBC market since 4Q19, or pre-pandemic. In early 2020, the massive shift away from offices to work-from-home caused a large decline in premises-based PBX, unified communications (UC), and call center users. Thus offices and other facilities needed fewer SIP trunks and SBC sessions. It is evident that work-from-home policies continued throughout 2021 and, with a waning pandemic in 2022, workers are starting to get called back to the office. For the full-year 2021, the E-SBC market declined by 13% to reach $411 million. We forecast that in 2022 the E-SBC market will continue to build on the strength of 4Q21 and benefit from the new return-to-office trend to grow 9% and reach $450 million.

The market leaders in 4Q21 were: AudioCodes, Oracle and Ribbon Communications, with AudioCodes and Ribbon growing market share year-over-year and Oracle remaining stable.
