In 4Q21, the Diameter Signaling Controller (DSC) market (product + services revenues) grew 19% sequentially. The market was up 13% versus 4Q20. As with other core network functions, DSC continue to transition away from purpose-built, physical network functions (PNF) toward software-only, virtual, and cloud-native network functions. During 4Q21, virtual and cloud-native revenues accounted for nearly three-quarters of total product revenues, up from just over half of the market in 4Q20.
For the full-year 2021, the DSC market grew 8% as world economies recovered from the pandemic and VoLTE subscriptions continue to grow. We forecast that market growth will slow in 2022 to 3% due to some pent-up demand appearing in 2021 boosting the growth rate for that year and slower VoLTE net additions.
5G Signaling, which is included in Exact Ventures’ 5-Year Forecast report, is beginning to be recognized as revenues for vendors but is still not material to the overall signaling market. 5G Signaling, which includes the BSF, SCP, and SEPP network functions, is critical to enable secure and scalable 5G standalone core networks. As these networks gain in size, the 5G signaling market will grow accordingly.
The worldwide market leaders in 4Q21 were: Huawei, Oracle, Ericsson, and Nokia.
